In this podcast Eric is joined today by Phildrick Llewellyn, a professional baseball player over the last 10 years, and he is now a Musical artist. They speak together Live from Paderborn Germany.
Phildrick speaks about many aspects of his life. The trials and tribulations he has gone through as a professional athlete as well as a musician. He talks about resilience and persistence, as well as authenticity
Phildrick talks about what has kept him in the game for so long. He explains how he fell out of MLB minor league baseball due to some mistakes he made. He later pushed himself to keep playing in the Pecos league after considering dropping baseball all together and has gone on to play for many pro teams since. Phildrick now sees himself playing professional baseball for 10 more years until he’s 38.
In his music career, Phildrick tells us he’s been pursuing it for a year and 4 months. He explains that music has been the therapy in his life, after 20+ years of playing baseball has taken its toll on him. He talks about wanting to leave a legacy for his son, who he already sees imitating him by rapping his lyrics and copying his movements from his music videos.
Phildrick moves on to talk about his biggest lesson he has learned in life - People are going to judge you no matter what you do, so you should be your authentic self always. He goes on to talk about his tough upbringing - running miles, being pushed beyond his physical limit by his father and more. When he was a kid his resilience muscle was built through these hard experiences and now those times were integral to how he stays resilient through anything in life. He then goes on to talk about his self-expression and how important it is to him, as well as how he expresses himself in his music.
Eric asks Phildrick what living in his full potential looks like to him, to which he responds that every morning he wakes up he’s actually happy, instead of trying to be happy. He doesn’t want to have to rely on anything else to make him happy, just being happy is his goal. An inside out process.
Eric and Phildrick have a lot more deep and meaningful conversations to finish off the podcast.
